About Us

The Uniform Food Safety Transportation Protocol (UFSTP) is a legal document to be executed by subscribing motor carriers that sets for the minimum standards they agree to meet in compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations under FSMA to ensure the sanitary transportation of human and animal food. The Protocol was prepared by a law firm specializing in transportation law after consultation with carriers, shippers, brokers, warehousing firms, and insurers.

The intent of the Protocol is to establish minimum delegable duties that subscribing carriers agree to meet. A list of subscribing carriers together with appropriate contact and insurance information will be published by TransComply for incorporation by reference in contracts and load confirmation sheets executed with subscribing carriers by shippers, brokers, warehousing firms, and consignors.

The Protocol is copyrighted and managed by TransComply, and only current subscribing carriers are authorized to use the Protocol or incorporate it by reference in contracts. The purpose of the Protocol is to establish uniformity and minimum standards that will afford all carriers equal access to perishable commodities governed by FSMA and the FDA rule while allowing customers in the spot market to verify carrier familiarity with delegable FDA requirements under the act.

TransComply is a third-party provider of regulatory and compliance information to the motor carrier industry that, among other things, tracks recent regulatory developments affecting motor carriers and publishes compliance tools for carrier use. Avery Vise, president of TransComply, has more than 18 years’ experience in the trucking industry as an editor, commentator and director of research and data analysis.
